17th National Statistics Day
Department of Economics- Govt Hrangbana College # 29th June 2023 # Conference Hall GHBC
In recognition of the notable contribution made by Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics and economic planning, Govt. of India has designated 29th June every year, coinciding with his birth anniversary as “Statistics Day” in the category of special Days to be celebrated at the national level.
The 17th National Statistics Day 2023, was observed on the 29th June, 2023 at the Conference Hall, Govt. Hrangbana College with a theme: “Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for Monitoring Sustainable Development Goals”. The programme was organized by Department of Economics, GHBC.
Dr. Rohmingliani, the chairperson, gave a keynote address. The speaker- Prof. Kalyan Adak, Head, Department of Commerce, GHBC delivered an insightful speech about the life and contributions of the great statistician, the importance and uses of statistics and its fallacies. The college’s statistician-Miss Judy lalremruati also shared about the importance of statistics. The programme was ended with a vote of thanks by Miss Laldinpuii, Head, Department of Economics.
The objective of this day is to create public awareness, especially in the younger generation for drawing inspiration from Prof. Mahalanobis about the role and importance of statistics in socio-economic, planning and policy formulation. The programme was indeed resourceful, informative and fruitful.
